2021 Deloitte Top 200 Winners Announced

The winners of the 2021 Deloitte Top 200 Awards were announced today recognizing the best of New Zealand’s business and business leaders, and the way they are rethinking their businesses for future growth.

Now in its 32nd year, the awards recognize the depth and scope of New Zealand’s business community and celebrate the outstanding individual and management team performances in Aotearoa’s largest companies and trade organizations.

The juging panel convener, New Zealand Media and Entertainment (NZME) Head of Business Content, Fran O’Sullivan said “the organizations and individuals receiving the awards have demonstrated real resilience and resilience, and smart business excellence to deliver strong performance even in tough times. “

Deloitte Top 200 judges selected Infratil as Company of the Year and awarded David Mair Skellerup Holdings Chief Executive of the Year. Peter Beck, the New Zealand entrepreneur who made his passion into a leading business in global aerospace was named 2021 Visionary Leader of the Year.

Judge Neil Paviour-Smith said that “Infratil had a great performance in 2021. There was strong performance in its key investments, particularly in data centers. They divested well and made some new play that there are acquisitions in medical diagnostics such as Pacific Radiology. These measures have added significant shareholder value and we have noticed their effective avoidance of an acquisition tested by the Aussie Super.

“While Infratil is a great long-term performer, its overall shareholder return of 65% in 2021 is outstanding.”

Chief Executive of the Year David Mair is an “unsung hero of New Zealand business, with a hands-on deep and fanatical knowledge of customer requirements, process, plant and equipment, and design for Skellerup’s manufacturing customers,” the judge said. Ross George.

“Mair doesn’t seem to make mistakes as he thoroughly studies industries and businesses, and is good at capturing and consolidating companies, often on an undisputed basis,” Mr George added.

Judge Cathy Quinn observed that the past 12 months have been a difficult time for all Top 200 companies. “In some cases, success is safety. In other cases – as we see in this year’s winners – it uses the pandemic to strengthen their core business and create opportunity,” he said.

The judges also chose to award special judges to Air New Zealand, in recognition of the airline’s efforts over the past two years. The judges commended all airline employees who worked hard to respond to the enormous challenge posed by COVID-19, and in doing so maintained strong support for the brand and services offered by the airline.

Deloitte Chief Executive Mike Horne said, “We continue to be inspired by the high caliber of winners at the Deloitte Top 200 awards, and in another year of disruption we have seen these individuals and organizations raise the bar and embrace unique this opportunity to unlock productivity and drive change. ”

Awards would not be possible without the support of our award sponsors, NZ Herald Premium, ServiceNow, 2degrees, Amazon Web Services, Barfoot & Thompson, BusinessNZ, Forsyth Barr, Hobson Leavy, Tax Traders and The Aotearoa Circle.
