“If you can’t appreciate what you’ve got, you’d better get what you can appreciate.” -George Bernard Shaw ; Pygmalion

Pygmalion (1913) is a play by George Bernard Shaw, named after a Greek mythological figure.

In ancient Greek mythology, Pygmalion fell in love with one of his sculptures, which then came to life. The general idea of that myth was a popular subject for Victorian era English playwrights.

In the play, Shaw spins the myth as the central character is brought to life by two men in speech. Their goal is for her to marry and become a duchess.

Pygmalion remains Shaw’s most popular play. The play’s widest audiences know it as the inspiration for the highly romanticized 1956 musical and 1964 film My Fair Lady.
