MariaDB is changing. This Finnish database company was founded by MySQL founder Monty Widenius in 2009 and last year raised 54 million US dollars from a group of investors led by the European Investment Bank and Alibaba. Intel is also included in the pool. Now, we need to add ServiceNow to the shareholder list. Cloud application providers have just injected $44.2 million into open source publishers. Pat Casey, the company’s vice president of development and operations, will also serve on the board of directors. “We will firmly invest to make the ServiceNow platform the most innovative solution for customers”, The latter is explained in the joint statement. “We are investing in MariaDB to bring our expertise in cloud automation to them and enable some of the world’s largest companies to further develop. By working with MariaDB to develop new features, we are further improving database technology.”
The ServiceNow platform relies on a cluster of approximately 85,000 MariaDB TX databases to handle more than 25 billion requests per hour. In addition, the two companies continue to work on the development of distributed database solutions to meet the needs of their largest customers.
MariaDB may use part of its investment to acquire its competitor Clustrix. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. This allows Finnish publishers to provide greater scalability to their customers. “ Today, the choice of scalable database options is limited-you either choose expensive traditional solutions such as Oracle, or choose NoSQL solutions with limited data integrity capabilities.” MariaDB CEO Michael Howard said in a company statement. “ With Clustrix, MariaDB can provide better solutions for customers with demanding scalable business environments. Our distributed solutions can meet the most extreme needs of the most important customers and provide them with the opportunity to break Oracle locks. “
Clustrix claims that its distributed architecture processes more than 25 trillion transactions per month globally, generating billions of rows of data on behalf of its customers.
