Ottawa –
The Conservative party confirmed that six candidates have been proven as opponents of the leadership after the final hurdles were passed in getting their names on the ballot.
Pierre Poilievre, the bombastic Tory financial critic who has sometimes reaped thousands of rallies, and Jean Charest, the former Quebec premier who appeals to more centered Conservatives, are both race candidates.
So are Patrick Brown, the mayor of Brampton, Ont., Who advocates religious freedom and makes targeted commitments to ethnic communities, and Leslyn Lewis, the social conservative in rural Ontario MP.
Scott Aitchison, the Ontario MP who vowed to end supply management, and Roman Baber, the Independent Ontario MPP from the Progressive Conservative caucus for his opposition to COVID-19 lockdowns, also made cuts.
Candidates had to submit the full $ 300,000 required in registration fees and a compliance deposit, along with signatures from 500 party members, last Friday to be verified.
The Conservatives will announce their new leader on Sept. 10.
