Global businesses using private/hybrid cloud request platforms to control the use and cost of cloud resources, ISG Provider The Lens report says ™

STAMFORD, Conn .– (BUSINESS WIRE)-Accelerating the global growth of private/hybrid cloud migration is leading more businesses to use cloud management platforms (CMPs) to monitor and control their use of cloud resources, according to in a new research report published today by Information Services Group (ISG) (Nasdaq: III), a leading global technology research and consulting firm.

The 2022 ISG Provider Lens ™ Next-Gen Private/Hybrid Cloud-Data Center Services and Solutions global report finds that an increasing number of businesses are choosing to move their IT infrastructure to the private and hybrid cloud due to rising cost pressure . The technical debt imposed by aging systems, including the need for staff skilled in legacy technologies, is increasingly a cost that companies do not want to bear.

“Businesses around the world are moving to the cloud to reduce their costs, but cloud computing has its own costs that need to be controlled,” said Bernie Hoecker, partner at ISG, Enterprise Cloud. “A good CMP is essential to a successful cloud transformation.”

Effective CMPs allow administrators to view all aspects of cloud usage and cost on one screen and integrate cost-control features in both multi-cloud and on-premises environments, the report says . Large multinational companies, in particular, are requesting customizable CMPs that can be integrated into large application monitoring and management platforms via APIs. Almost all of these platforms include powerful cloud cost optimization modules with measurement, billing and accounting systems that track departmental responsibilities, including chargeback and showback.

“CMPs from major vendors now include all the key features that companies want, which can be hard to identify with them,” said Jan Erik Aase, partner and global leader, ISG Provider Lens Research. “Advisory firms help clients choose the best solution.”

Businesses in industries including IT, retail, banking, telecommunications, media and entertainment use CMPs, the report says. North America, an early adopter of many advanced technologies, was the largest market for the platforms. Like many emerging technologies, the lack of talent and expertise is a major challenge for CMPs.

The report also examines the growing popularity of hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) systems, which offer cloud-like economics for existing data centers.

The 2022 ISG Provider Lens ™ Next-Gen Private/Hybrid Cloud-Data Center Services and Solutions global report examines the capabilities of 28 providers in two quadrants: Hyperconverged Systems and Hybrid Cloud Management Platforms.

The report named HPE and VMware as Leaders in both quadrant. BMC, Cisco, Flexera, Morpheus Data, Nutanix and ServiceNow are named as Leaders in a quadrant each.

A customized version of the report is available from Morpheus Data.
