3 Vendors Complete Preliminary Design Review under Space Force GPS Tech Program

The US Space Force and three companies have completed the preliminary design phase evaluation of a program seeking technology products that will enable military personnel to use common satellite positioning, navigation and timing services.

BAE Systems, L3Harris Technologies and Raytheon Technologies completed the assessment process for receiver designs over the past three months as part of the USSF’s Military GPS User Equipment Increment 2 Miniature Serial Interface project, the Space Systems Command said Wednesday.

First awarded USSF MSI contracts worth a combined $552 million as of November 2020 in efforts to modernize and protect PNT military equipment against GPS-related cyber attacks.

The program aims to address the potential application specific integrated circuit obsolescence issue of MGUE Increment 1.

All three vendors aim to complete critical ASIC design reviews in the third quarter of the government’s 2023 fiscal year and MSI CDR events in the following quarter.
