Barracuda Network updated Barracuda RMM (Remote monitoring and management) software platform, suitable for MSP with various security and IT service management (ITSM) integration.
The Barracuda RMM platform is specifically designed for MSP and now has:
- Integration with Windows Defender AntivirusThe company stated that it allows MSP to protect “the endpoints of Windows Defender antivirus software by centrally managing and alerting all files, folders, and selected devices.”
- Improved patch management for third-party applications — Including MSP’s ability to “immediately apply patches to identified devices and increase visibility to which devices are online or offline”.
- Extended integration with Barracuda Intronis Backup — include The ability to seamlessly synchronize new information between RMM and the Intronis management console, and view critical reports and alerts, such as missing backup reports and unstartable backup alerts, all of which are in the RMM tool,” the company said.
- Integration with ServiceNow Simplify event and ticket management.
Barracuda RMM and ServiceNow integration: What differentiates ITSM?
ServiceNow integration is particularly interesting and may mark MSP’s co-management of mid-market opportunities. In addition, as some RMM providers compete with ServiceNow in the areas of PSA (Professional Service Automation) and ticketing software, some RMM software competitors are making slow progress in providing ServiceNow integration.
The company noted that other enhancements to the Barracuda RMM include:
- Enhanced support for MacOS, including Mac device manager agent and upgrades to Catalina and Big Sur;
- A new MSI installation package Barracuda RMM Device manager agent for Windows;
- Improved alert emails, including site, device, and alert configuration names in the subject line of alert emails; and
- Improved report search.
Improvements to the Barracuda RMM surfaced a week after the company’s CEO position transitioned from BJ Jenkins to Hatem Naguib. Jenkins withdrew and joined Palo Alto Networks as president, which prompted Naguib to be promoted from Barracuda’s COO position. In an interview with ChannelE2E, Naguib described his continued commitment to MSP and channel partners.
The Technological Journey of Barracuda MSP Partners
Barracuda acquired cloud backup provider Intronis in September 2015 and began its business journey into the MSP partner market.
The acquisition of Intronis is not just a transaction, but part of a larger Barracuda strategy to establish a channel sales model centered on MSP. The resulting Barracuda MSP business unit has been led by Brian Babineau since May 2016 and has quietly ranked among the most successful MSP platform providers in the world.
Also worth noting: Private equity firm Thoma Bravo acquired Barracuda in November 2017 as part of a larger MSP technology strategy. Thoma Bravo also owns and/or supports ConnectWise, N-able and Sophos, as well as other software and technology businesses.
Barracuda RMM: MSP software market position
Barracuda is known for its network security and data protection products and is a niche player in the RMM software market. Barracuda acquired RMM technology when he purchased Managed Workplace from Avast in 2019.
The main competitors of Barracuda RMM include:
Although the RMM software market in the United States has matured with millions of endpoints deployed, the international market can provide Barracuda RMM with blue ocean growth opportunities.
In the prepared statement regarding RMM software enhancements, Chris Crellin, Senior Director of Product Management at Barracuda MSP said:
“Our continuous improvement of Barracuda RMM is part of our continued commitment to support MSP in improving its security products. RMM tools must be part of the daily client security assessment and remediation of MSP. Today, we make it easier for service providers to complete these tasks by adding new features and functions that focus on reducing security risks and protecting customer data and applications, thereby driving business value in their customer base. “
