Due to the increased demand for networks, cyber security, cloud connectivity, and data science spaces, recruitment in the information technology (IT) field has surged, providing students at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) with strong pre-employment opportunities (PPO) and internships Opportunity) Pilani, Hyderabad and Goa campuses this year.
The pre-recruitment season for 2021 recruitment has started this month, and 3 BITS campuses have received PPOs from companies such as Microsoft, DE Shaw, Google, Uber, Cisco, Adobe, Salesforce, Amazon, ServiceNow, Oracle, and Flipkart in the IT field. According to Balasubramanian Gurumurthy, chief placement officer of BITS Pilani, all of these people are actively recruiting.

Mr. Balasubramaniam said that the entire industry has seen a positive atmosphere, because even chipset manufacturers such as Qualcomm, Nvidia, Micron and Western Digital are hiring wildly and recruiting a large number of students to participate in summer internships. The PPO conversion rate is very high.
The FMCG industry saw Hindustan Unilever and Mondelez recruit interns from campuses, and ExxonMobil and Honeywell also provided quotations for core mechanical and chemical profiles. This season also saw Wells Fargo, WorldQuant, MX Player, Citrix, Standard Chartered, Myntra, PhonePe and Barclays recruit summer internships and expanded PPO from the BITS Pilani campus for the first time.
A total of 497 students received summer internship opportunities in multiple companies, of which 357 students (71.83%) received full-time job opportunities in their companies. This marks an exponential increase in summer internship opportunities and final job opportunities received during the 2021 recruitment season, with 409 students receiving summer internship opportunities and 287 students receiving PPO.
He said that the PPO of many companies has increased. For example, Microsoft hired 52 people to 48 people, ServiceNow hired 25 people to 4 people, Oracle hired 44 people to 19 people, Walmart Labs hired 33 people to 29 people, Micron hired 11 people to 5 people, and Flipkart 13 to 7 were recruited for the graduation batches in 2022 and 2021, respectively.
The average salary of summer internship PPO also increased by 6.2% to 2.899 million rupees per year, compared to 26.29 million rupees in the previous year. The maximum salary remained roughly unchanged at approximately 4.5 million rupees.
The number of custody companies has also increased significantly, with 87 custody companies compared to 46 last year-a change of 89.13% over the same period. Correspondingly, the number of students placed has increased significantly by 65.25% (975 in 2022, compared to 590 in 2021 as of the second week of September).
The electronics industry has also witnessed active recruitment. In all three Indian campuses this year, Qualcomm provided 79 quotations, Western Digital provided 35 quotations, Texas Instruments provided 23 quotations, and MediaTek provided 45 quotations.
