Two former employees of technology giant ServiceNow have set up a software startup in San Diego, which is starting a wave of new pandemic-related businesses. This startup has attracted the attention of former ServiceNow executives.
The new company called SerenityEHS has just raised $400,000 from investors to develop its business. Among its investors are two former ServiceNow executives, including Craig Pratt, the company’s former vice president of global product line sales. This round of financing was led by Naked Capital Group.
SerenityEHS is developing software that can help companies manage environmental, health and safety issues, such as submitting regulatory documents, managing inspections, and reporting safety incidents.
“When the influenza pandemic hit, it made all these organizations reassess their health and safety capabilities,” said Chris Markham, who co-founded the startup with Peter Onepo. “They have now put health and safety on their list of priorities.”
Markham said that companies with COVID-19 cases or outbreaks need to follow certain procedures, including some paperwork required by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
Markham said: “OSHA requires you to collect information and report it within a certain period of time.” “We help the company manage it and report it to regulators.”
Markham (Markham) said the startup has already paid corporate customers, but will not disclose more details.
SerenityEHS software can run on the ServiceNow platform, which has been used by thousands of large companies, including most of the Fortune 500 companies.
Markham said: “The company is looking for EHS solutions on ServiceNow, and we are the only solution there.” “That’s why we are seeing such huge growth.”
In a city known for things like computer chips and wireless systems, ServiceNow is one of the few rare software giants founded in San Diego. After the Internet bubble burst, ServiceNow was first launched in Solana Beach. It is one of the earliest companies in the cloud software trend, with a current market value of more than 95 billion US dollars. They built a software-as-a-service platform for the world’s largest companies to manage their IT help requests online.
Today, ServiceNow is more like an operating system (such as Windows) for enterprise-level cloud applications. Other companies build enterprise-level software and applications for the platform. In fact, several former ServiceNow employees have left the corporate giant and published their ideas on the platform of the former employer. Local startups DotWalk and NewRocket fall into this category.
Markham sold its last startup, Intreis, to ServiceNow in 2015, making it one of the technology giant’s earliest acquisitions. He then joined ServiceNow for more than four years, where he held various leadership positions in sales and project management.
His co-founder Oneppo was the risk manager of NowX, the future product team of ServiceNow.
The duo hired an engineer at SerenityEHS and plan to join the project manager as soon as possible. Markham said they hope to use the new funds to expand the scale of the product and deliver the signed business.
