Chief executives will need to rethink their business as the Covid-19 pandemic shapes the future of the job.
That’s the message from serviceNow NZ country manager Kate Tulp who commented on 2021 CEO of the Year
finalists for the Deloitte Top 200 awards.
“The pandemic has completely had an impact on how CEOs work going forward,” Tulp said.
“The pandemic has shown that we can rethink how and where work is done, and how we measure and deliver value.”
Named as finalists for the ServiceNow Chief Executive of the Year award were refining Naomi James of New Zealand, Nick Grayston of The Warehouse Group and David Mair of Skellerup Holdings.
Tulp said he sees the focus on employee welfare, engagement and retention dramatically increase in more annual reports.
“Interaction is really mind-boggling and people realize that in a pandemic, you need to create an environment where your workers can adapt easily, be healthy and thrive, with tools and systems that support and provide power over them. “
Employee welfare is one of the four major challenges leaders face today, Tulp said.
He said digital transformation is something that needs to be first on the minds of all leaders because both business model and technology disruption is happening at scale.
“Technology is both an enabler of better business, and it also gives leaders the ability to completely change business models. Executive teams, and CEOs in particular, need to understand how technology can be used to do both, ”Tulp said.
“If leaders don’t, they can hinder the efficiency of an organization, but also business stability, agility, and flexibility. Technology gives you the insight to understand how to change, and the tools to create those. new and better ways of doing things. “
Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues, including sustainability, are also a top priority for leaders.
Tulp said it’s a question of: How do you put your organization in a position where you’re innovating, contributing and leading?
“Organizations that don’t respond will quickly go to a dead end.
“The best executive teams carefully look at how to balance short -term performance goals with necessary investments in long -term growth, such as change to meet ESG requirements, market disruptions, and sustainability change.”
Finally, Tulp said, macroeconomic factors, including how a business competes around the world, and whether you can adapt to changing priorities and circumstances (e.g. recent supply-chain disruptions) are top priority for leaders.
“To succeed in the future, organizations need to deliver exceptional experiences for both employees and customers. Approaching them in a symbiotic way will deliver benefits across the board, and the use of technology will be important foundation to make it all together, ”Tulp said.
