Frank Slootman, CEO of ServiceNow in the Netherlands, will retire on April 3, 2017. His role as president and chief executive officer (CEO) will be taken over by John Donahoe, the former CEO of auction site eBay and current chairman of digital payment company Paypal. Slootman will continue to serve as chairman of the US provider of cloud service management solutions.

For the past six years, Slootman has led ServiceNow. He believes that in the next stage of growth, companies should not only support IT managers, but also hope to provide value-added services to the board of directors in the field of digital issues, which should be led by new senior managers.

His successor Donahoe has extensive experience in expanding the company. Under his leadership, eBay’s sales doubled to $18 billion. He later became chairman of Paypal, the eBay division. Before joining the auction site in 2005, he worked for Bain & Company Consulting for 20 years; his last position was CEO.

Slootman graduated from Erasmus University in 1984. Since then, he has made a major transition to work for companies such as Compuware and Borland Software. In 1995, he returned to the Netherlands as Uniface manager for three years. In 1997, he went to the United States again to serve as the CEO of Data Domain, a backup expert, which was acquired by EMC in 2009.

ServiceNow’s 2016 fiscal year sales were $1.39 billion. Compared with 2015 (turnover: USD 1 billion), it has increased by 38%. However, the software company did report the red number again: $451.8 million.
