The National Frequency Management Council has formally provided the 3.5GHz spectrum allocation for the deployment of Fifth Generation (5G) Networks to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
In conducting the handover ceremony today Thursday, 17th February 2022, in Abuja, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami), Chairman of the Council and Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, also held a public presentation of the Fifth Generation National Policy Networks for Digital of Nigeria. economy.
Addressing the event participants, Pantami recalled that the country’s journey in realizing 5G was fraught with challenges many of which were superstitious and unscientific.
“Amid the health rumors linking 5G to the origin and spread of Covid19, the Federal Government has taken deliberate, careful steps to ensure its safety through testing, expert review and advice. from professionals and relevant authorities and stakeholders because the safety of our citizens is our priority ”.
Professor Pantami stressed the need for Nigeria to take pride in its place in the fourth industrial revolution by exploring the tools of digital technology.
He stressed some of the benefits of 5G to include enhanced security, transparency, strengthening agriculture and more.
While handing over the allocated spectrum to Professor Adeolu Akande, and Professor Umar Garba Danbatta, the Chairman of the Governing Board and the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, respectively, the Minister ordered that the spectrum be distributed to companies whose bid was successful during the auction in December of 2021. Similarly, he called on all stakeholders to ensure the implementation of the 5G National Policy for Nigeria’s Digital Economy.

Recall that the initial test to ascertain the risks involved in deploying 5G in Nigeria was conducted in November of 2019 as the policy was launched on 25th January 2022 by President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR)
