ServiceNow and Intel Volteo collaborate to provide EaaS Edge To Service solutions


Data is at the core of every business today. However, if we do not understand the data or cannot access the data, it will not benefit us much. More important than the data itself is to have the right data in the hands of the right people who can execute it at the right time.

This demand has given birth to edge computing, which helps companies gather insights from data by processing data as close as possible to the source. It works as follows: local Internet of Things (IoT) devices collect data and then analyze the results before transmitting them to the cloud. Think of it as real-time IoT data analysis.

In order to make full use of the business value of these data, edge intelligence must be delivered through the edge supporting infrastructure and transformed by a workflow engine.

Our partnership leverages Intel’s breadth in the edge device market and our experience in managing and orchestrating complex workflows. Intel manufactures end-to-end computing, networking and storage devices. ServiceNow provides a platform for running business service lifecycle workflows, as well as seamless and secure enterprise digital solutions through our operation technology and service management functions.

Volteo is an Intel IoT Solutions Alliance partner and a ServiceNow strategic technology partner. It bridges this gap with a function based on the Now Platform®, which takes full advantage of Intel’s artificial intelligence/visual computing support. Volteo also uses ServiceNow® workflow to create design patterns tailored to vertical industries.

Our partnership can bring edge to service results for the entire enterprise. These results include connected value chains and internal shared services. The former involves keeping the line of business systems operating effectively while enriching them to provide additional revenue. The latter is about ensuring that all equipment is functioning properly and understanding how everything continues to work from an IT perspective.

Common industry use cases include:

  • Smart city (infrastructure)
  • Factory floor interruption/repair (manufacturing)
  • Pipeline management (oil and gas)

Our partnership enhances and enriches the workflow with real-time information that helps detect and correct problems when they occur, so that each item can arrive where it needs to be processed on time, every time.

For example, a telecommunications company might use 5G connections to manage a port​​ where goods are transferred from ships to trains and trucks. In this case, Intel edge devices will monitor cooling, humidity, and other environmental factors, and pass this information to ServiceNow Connected Operations, IT Operations Management (ITOM) or IntegrationHub solutions through Volteo.

In the retail industry, Intel edge devices can obtain GPS signals from a mobile phone application of the customer’s choice and forward the nearest store location to the mobile phone. The company can also use the app to notify customers of transactions at specific locations that day. All of this can be achieved using Volteo’s design through the ServiceNow workflow.
