Only about 20% of majors in engineering and computer science are female, according to the AAUW. Gender discrimination in the technology sector is seen as a barrier by 39% of women, TrustRadius 2021 Women in Tech Report added.
The need for gender equality in the tech industry is not new, but clearly it is not yet a reality. Companies around the world are still letting female talent fall into the gaps.
At ServiceNow, we don’t want to be one of those companies. So, we want to clarify one thing: Anyone who introduces herself as a woman has the same legitimate role in tech as everyone else. We work hard to make sure that message is heard.

Change makers
Not enough to clear table space. We also need to make sure that women are:
-
Know the space
-
Feeling actively encouraged to take it
-
Have confidence that, if they do, they will have everything they need to thrive
As a major player in the tech industry, we know that our job is to make change every day. We present some of the women who have chosen to grow their careers at ServiceNow to show how we foster an inclusive environment for all.
A supportive culture
Solution Consultant Yiran H. joined ServiceNow in Frankfurt, Germany, more than two years ago as part of a six -month training program called Solution Consulting Academy. His was the first class launched in Europe.
“It was a very fast learning process, but it gave us everything we needed to succeed, including mentors and friends,” he said. “For me, it’s a very safe environment.”
The team culture at ServiceNow has allowed Yiran to grow both personally and professionally. He learned about the company’s solutions and values and he improved his German language skills. “It’s a fantastic challenge to work in Germany,” he pointed out. Although German was not his first language, he found the management team very supportive in pushing him to thrive.
“We have a tuition payment program to allow employees to learn related skills they want to improve,” he explains. “I benefit from this by taking online lessons in German. My colleagues have even offered me one-on-one language training. It’s great to be empowered to expand this skill.”
Career advancement
In addition to an inclusive team environment, our commitment to women at ServiceNow includes supporting career development through mentoring, working with external partners, and implementing action plans.
About a year into his career at ServiceNow, Yiran felt he wanted a change. “I’m a people person. I love being in the driver’s seat and making an impact,” she notes. “After a while, my position at the time started to feel like more of a role in the backseat, so I sat down with management to talk about it. They were really supportive and really appreciated the honest feedback.”
In partnership with leadership, Yiran has been able to navigate a more customer-centered, strategic role. “By 2021, I already have my own accounts, in front of customers, and I can build a really solid relationship with them, and I’m proud of that,” he said.
A place of belonging
Thinking of growth in ServiceNow is equally important for Heike B., who joined in 2017 as an advisory solution consultant.
“Almost two years ago, I was looking for an opportunity to work more strategically with enterprise accounts,” he said. “So, I talked to my managers, and they made it happen. That kind of action means you know you’re important to them. I felt supported throughout the process and can honestly say I gave everything I need to progress within the company.”
Heike also values the general culture at ServiceNow. Although the tech industry is male -dominated, she first joined a group of five that included four women. As a result, Heike sees the commitment ServiceNow makes to ensure an equal working environment for all.
Women in the company are given the voice and tools they need to thrive. “I’ve never personally felt deprived because of my gender here,” Heike said, “but I believe that women should empower each other. Continue to create a workplace where that feels right. we all are. “
Celebrating women at ServiceNow
When employees are able to truly be themselves at work and they know to respect their voices and encourage opinions, they unleash magic.
Worldwide, where we have payment data by gender, we are within a penny of salary equity for women around the world. We have also increased the number of women in leadership positions over the past three years and put in place programs to further advance it.
We knew we couldn’t get our foot off the pedal. That is why we promise to continue to listen to our workers and continue with the actions necessary to ensure that everyone is given a seat at the table.
