ServiceNow has invested US$10 million in CareAR, a service experience management (SXM) software company founded by Xerox. Xerox said that the post-investment valuation of CareAR is $700 million.

Why should MSP care? The answer may involve the future of remote IT support. In fact, service employees and MSPs can use CareAR vision and augmented reality (AR) tools to provide remote support to end customers—thus reducing the need for on-site services.

Nevertheless, this is not just the role of MSP, VAR and IT services. Xerox asserts that CareAR aims to become an “industry agnostic.” In other words, the software is designed for any company that wants to improve customer support and service delivery.

The CareAR platform that Xerox acquired in January 2021 is integrated with ServiceNow field service management and “allows service technicians to leverage the knowledge of more experienced technicians through real-time AR-assisted guidance,” Xerox asserted.

CareAR’s augmented reality software combines DocuShare’s content management system, XMPie’s cross-media platform and Xerox’s PARC Alto AI artificial intelligence engine.

Augmented reality (AR), MSP and remote IT support

From Microsoft to Facebook to CareAR, dozens of companies are developing augmented reality software platforms and related applications.

In many cases, the software is designed for IT support staff to provide virtual access to customer sites and equipment. In other cases, AR technology combines the experience of remote technicians with the experience of on-site users or support providers.

Nonetheless, augmented reality (AR) mainly involves use cases for businesses and consumers. ChannelE2E is unaware that major MSP software vendors are developing AR tools for the SMB market.
