Digital workflow company ServiceNow has partnered with the Irish Refugee Council and Purpl Unicorn to offer an intensive training program to refugees in Ireland.
The nine-week NextGen program is designed to close the technical proficiency gap, and will offer a certified training program to participants. It aims to help solve the tech skills shortage while also providing opportunities to poor communities and addressing the diversity and imbalance in integration in the technology sector.
ServiceNow started running the program in 2019, and had a waiting list of 200 people for the pilot phase in Ireland. The program aims to train every applicant, with 93 percent of trainees being hired by ServiceNow, its partners or customers in junior developer roles.
“The tech sector as a whole must work together to make technology careers more accessible and help support the acute refugee crisis,” said Laurent Briant, director of global government programs at ServiceNow.
“There’s a huge and diverse, unused pool of talent out there and we aim to make it more accessible and equal access. We want to empower more people and give them the opportunity to work with one of the fastest. the world’s growing technology platforms. ”
Applications
NextGen programs are now taking applications for courses through November.
One participant, Syrian refugee Depp Maatouk, is currently in the bootcamp stage of the program here in Ireland.
“I’m a home journalist in Syria. When I came to Ireland, it was like everyone was talking about tech and coding,” he said. “I quickly recognized that there are many opportunities here for those with technology skills and a good qualification. I really appreciate accepting the ServiceNow NextGen program and plan on upskilling as quickly as I can.”
