Orlando, Florida–(Business Information)–Siemens Energy announced today that it is cooperating with ServiceNow to create a unified software service product that enables energy companies to monitor, detect, and respond to cyber threats to critical infrastructure of digital connections.

The new solution combines Siemens Energy’s artificial intelligence (AI)-based software with managed detection and response (MDR) powered by Eos.iiTM value, The service provides visibility and context across industrial operating environments through ServiceNow’s Operational Technology Management (OT Management) system to connect cyber threats and digital workflows, enabling analysts to quickly assess, prioritize, and take action on field incidents. The unified software solution creates a detection engine and workflow to simplify operations for cyber security analysts to monitor abnormal or malicious behaviors in the Security Operations Center (SOC), and energy plant operators to respond to reliable threat intelligence at machine speed action.

“Most energy companies are struggling to cope with the complex technical and economic challenges involved in monitoring, detecting, and preventing cyber attacks on critical infrastructure. Our MDR is supported by the Eos.ii solution and is the first artificial intelligence-based platform. It aims to provide timely visibility and context of the digital operating environment of the energy industry to prevent attacks,” said Leo Simonovich, head of cybersecurity at Siemens Energy Industry. “Combining Eos.ii’s monitoring and detection software with ServiceNow’s digital workflow will help transform cyber threat intelligence into action so that plant operators can accurately defend and respond to incidents at machine speed.”

“The ability to quickly turn data into action is critical to proactively, passively, and remotely mitigating cyber attacks on critical infrastructure. However, this is one of the biggest challenges facing industrial innovation,” said Marshall Tyler, Vice President of Industrial Solutions. ServiceNow. “Siemens Energy is a leader in this field, and we are working together to provide the energy industry with the insights and workflows they need to provide critical services and protect customers and stakeholders.”

Although the energy transition has brought new levels of cyber risk—exposing flaws in existing vulnerability management and security response strategies—most companies continue to invest in business models and technologies that rely on the seamless integration of physical and digital assets.

Using Siemens Energy’s Eos.ii software, energy companies can use ServiceNow OT management products to transform cyber threat intelligence on operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) networks (connected to physical energy assets) into actionable responses. This enables plant operators to take precise defense actions, which is a response method that can deploy appropriate, targeted and proportionate measures to correct and recover from cyber incidents. Using precise defenses to respond to cyber threats enables energy plant operators to increase efficiency and reduce operating costs, while responding to incidents with little downtime for critical systems.

Siemens Energy’s MDR system provides defenders with a unified picture of abnormal behavior and provides actionable insights to prevent attacks. With a deeper understanding of the relationship between digital systems and the real world, the service goes beyond traditional surveillance. With a unified OT and IT data flow, MDR’s Eos.ii technology platform uses artificial intelligence and digital twin technology to compare billions of real-time data points with assets in operation. This provides the background for Siemens Energy analysts, not only to determine which events are abnormal, but also to determine which events are consequential. The technical achievements of unified data flow and machine learning provide an unprecedented platform for targeted in-depth analysis.
