Dear colleagues and students
This week, we’re celebrating a significant milestone in the Drupal 9 development and website migration project. The University of Cape Town (UCT) main website, as well as staff and student websites have been made live on the improved, more responsive to mobile devices and more secure Drupal 9 website content management system. By the end of this week, the faculty websites will also go live.
The Drupal 9 project is now in the migration phase, where around 330 websites will be migrated from Drupal 7 to Drupal 9. This phase started at the end of December 2021 and will continue throughout this year.
The moratorium on the creation of new websites put in place from August 2, 2020, will be lifted from next week. Requests for new websites can be made through ServiceNow, while Drupal 9 training can be booked through SuccessFactors.
Dr Reno Morar, our Chief Operating Officer (COO) and the Project’s Implementation Committee (PIC) Chair has previously written to members of the Leadership Lekgotla and the UCT community about the importance of this project, and I would like to thank everyone for with their support. The UCT website is not only an important internal operating tool but an opportunity to showcase the exceptional work and efforts of colleagues and students across the institution.
On behalf of the UCT Executive, I would like to thank our COO, and the project implementation partner departments and all involved staff from the Communication and Marketing Department (CMD), and Information and Communication Technology Services (ICTS) department for their diligent work on the project so far, and I wish them well for the rest of Phase 2.
I urge all website owners and content managers to continue to work with the project team to ensure they can deliver all websites to Drupal 9 as soon as possible.
Sincerely
Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng
Vice-Chancellor
