NEW DELHI: Technology is the most effective tool to deliver gender equality in the workplace, and it should be used by female developers extensively for career growth, a united panel of female techs concluded leader in a virtual panel discussion hosted by TechGig.
The discussion on #BreaktheBias: What women in tech want ’included female leaders from technology companies like NetApp India, TCS, Thoughtworks, ServiceNow and Actu-Real Inc.
The panel considered how female technologists bring a different – and responsive – perspective to the board and that having more women in the workforce is not an option but a business necessity.
Madhurima Agarwal, Director- Engineering Programs, NetApp India highlighted how many women are now taking up STEM roles and are also gradually finding a place in the boardroom.
Anita K Manda, Director- Information Technology, ServiceNow, spoke about the role of mentorship in the workplace. “Young women developers should look at the women leaders around them and follow their path,” she said.
Speaking about the NLB #BridgeTheGap Diversity hackathon, Sachin Alug, CEO, NLB Services said, “This hackathon will allow finalists/winners to have the opportunity to work with organizations with a global reputation, regardless of whether they are starting their careers, have taken a break from their jobs or are just looking to branch out.TechGig can help with the goal by leveraging its existing community of tech enthusiasts and creating awareness to help of its reach in the tech domain across India ”.
Gender diversity is one of the most talked about agendas on the technology job floors but the efforts that have resulted in its limited growth. As a result, women make up only 34% of tech workers today, as estimated by industry body NASSCOM. Efforts, such as those initiated by TechGig, are focused on helping to make gender inclusive in tech workplaces. TechGig – with initiatives as Geek Goddess – is at the forefront of allowing women to break the glass ceiling in tech workplaces.
To mark the celebration of International Women’s Day, TechGig kicked off a women’s-only hiring hackathon hosted by NLB Services. This hackathon tests the Java, .NET proficiency of female developers and offers jobs and prizes (worth Rs 2,25,000) to top performers. It will end on April 11.
