Three state government departments are recruiting for directors and managers.
The California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet) is looking for a section leader (IT manager I) for the Information Technology Acquisitions & Projects (ITAP) Section. This position is responsible for the Information Technology Procurement & Administration Unit (ITPA), the Project Management Office (PMO) Unit, the CalVet Health Informatics Program (CHIP), and the Enterprise Architect (EA) Program within Information Services Division (ISD).
CalVet’s mission is to ensure that California veterans in every season and their families get the state and federal benefits and services for which they are eligible. The section head roles are focused on the Business Technology Management, Client Services, IT Project Management, and System Engineering domains, according to the job posting and role statement. Essential role functions include:
- Provide leadership, supervision, guidance and direction for the section, and develop and implement plans in accordance with the agency’s mission, vision and strategic plan as well as the Statewide Technology Strategic Plan.
- Perform administrative activities, which include managing the ISD budget and ensuring compliance with state reporting requirements; manage the ISD budget; provide budget reports to ISD managers and supervisors; and develop budget change concepts and budget change proposals.
- Manage the activities of the ITPA Unit; keep track of work assignments; and provide expert-level procurement, contracting and technical guidance to staff to ensure assignments are completed on time.
- Supervise PMO activities. Monitor work assignments and provide expert-level project management and technical guidance to staff to ensure timely completion of assignments.
- Manage CalVet Health Informatics Program activities. Monitor work assignments and provide guidance to staff to ensure timely completion of assignments.
- Manage EA Program activities; keep track of work assignments; and provide technical guidance to staff to ensure timely completion of assignments.
This position has a monthly salary range of $ 8,381 to $ 11,231, and the application deadline is March 6.
The California Department of Technology is recruiting for a network service management manager (IT manager I) with a variety of responsibilities, including “fulfilling network provisioning requests for multiple network services; providing network project management; vendor management; development and maintenance of ServiceNow CID; resolving network billing differences; and operating the Network Services Data Management (NSDM) system, ”according to the job posting.
Desirable qualifications for the position include:
- Strong management and management skills to perform in a complex environment.

- Experience in network provisioning and provisioning tools and technology.

- Knowledge of state policies and procedures governing the acquisition and use of technology.

The California Office of the Governor’s Emergency Services (Cal OES) recruits for two key leadership positions: the director (program manager III) and Deputy Director (program manager II) of the State Operations Center (SOC). Both positions provide leadership to the Incident Support Team within the Incident Command System (ICS) structure, which is used to respond to emergencies and disasters within the state.
Incumbents in both positions are “required to complete emergency response -related training, including both training in general response functions/structures and in their specific role within ICS, and achieve and maintain appropriate level of credential, ”the duty statements said. “This team participates in emergency drills, drills, and exercises outside of activations. This position will liaise with the appropriate Cal OES directors and/or offices to ensure that the broader organizational vision, policies, and procedures are fully integrated into response activities and to develop appropriate communication paths for sharing critical information during incidents. “
