Nutanix expands data management capabilities

Nutanix, a hyper-converged infrastructure provider, announced a series of new features at Tuesday’s conference, extending data management capabilities Global NEXT digital experience in 2021.

These features include a set of updates to the DbaaS Nutanix Era software, which are now generally available.

Nutanix Era enables enterprises to deploy and manage databases in hybrid and multi-cloud environments, namely PostgreSQL, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, SAP HANA, Oracle, and MongoDB.

To be precise, the database management platform has the right to use new simplified deployment options.

IDC analyst Eric Burgener said that the updated Nutanix Era product can deploy the most popular database environments faster and easier through one-click expansion. He pointed out that Nutanix has also introduced performance improvements to host more demanding databases on the Nutanix Cloud platform.

Unfortunately, the vendor’s Era document-a 646 page PDF is all the same-does not contain the publicly accessible release notes for this version 2.3. In addition, this description has not yet been posted to the Nutanix community forum. In a press conference before the virtual meeting, Nutanix Technical Director Rajiv Mirani explained that an important part of the update is related to the existing database in Nutanix (named Brownfield database server virtual machine In the documentation). Rajiv Mirani insists that the supplier’s goal is to make it easier for users to migrate the database without manual reconfiguration.

“All the best practices needed to achieve optimal performance are built into the migration process itself,” he said.

Nutanix strengthens storage expansion in Era

Nutanix Era also provides storage expansion and high availability support for multi-cloud deployments through failover capabilities.

The CTO reminded that the storage capacity of the DBMS is usually configured at the same time as the database is deployed, and their expansion requires downtime. This situation is changing in Nutanix.

This update 2.3 extends what Rajiv Mirani calls “one-click operation”, allowing enterprises to expand and adjust the database size in real time without downtime.

It also includes a series of security enhancements, including improved role-based access control (RBAC). According to the CTO, the goal is to allow secure sharing of databases between different users. This can first verify who has access to the management of these institutions.

Finally, although ServiceNow plans to invite itself into this field after acquiring Swarm64 (at least on the PostgreSQL component), Nutanix has announced its integration with the ITSM platform through a plug-in. The goal: very simple, when the developer issues a ticket to deploy a new application, there is no need to manually configure the deployment of the database instance. Similarly, this plugin allows you to uninstall the database and all related files (including clones and backups) from ServiceNow.

Data lens: Insights into unstructured data management

Nutanix has also launched a series of unstructured data management features, including Nutanix Data Lens for its Nutanix cloud platform, which will be launched at a later date that has not yet been determined.

Eric Burgener believes that Nutanix Data Lens can help improve Nutanix’s overall hybrid cloud management capabilities.

“This service [Nutanix Data Lens] It makes it easier to manage scattered data resources, thereby improving user productivity,” he said.

This is especially a new governance service under the SaaS model, which must be able to manage the life cycle of unstructured data, files, and objects, regardless of where it is deployed.

According to Rajiv Mirani, Data Lens will provide DBAs with insights into different aspects of data, including understanding who reads and writes the data access patterns.

The CTO emphasized that Data Lens can also promote data quality lifecycle management to support the organization’s compliance work. Nutanix also integrates security into Data Lens to prevent ransomware, which helps identify risks.
