CDI buys Clearpath, Expanded Managed, Digital Services

Computer Design & Integration, better known as CDI, announced Tuesday the acquisition of Clearpath Solutions Group in a move that enhances CDI’s reach in the mid-Atlantic region and gives Clearpath a strong new range of managed and digital innovation services it can bring to its customer base.

CDI, a New York -based solution provider is ranked No. 61 in the CRN 2021 Solution Provider 500, acquired Reston, Va. -Based Clearpath, which ranked No. 309 to Solution Provider 500, for an unspecified sum.

The acquisition is the latest in a range of acquisitions made by CDI since One Equity Partners acquired the majority stake in the solution provider in late 2019.

Clearpath is important for CDI for several reasons, said Rich Falcone, president and CEO of CDI.

The first, Falcone told CRN, is the opportunity for the solution provider to expand its presence in the mid -Atlantic.

CDI, with the help of One Equity Partners, has previously made three acquisitions in the region including Plan B Technologies, P5 Solutions and Kintyre, Falcone said.

“Clearpath is a complementary addition to CDI,” he said. “Clearpath has deep expertise in Dell and Pure Storage, while the P5 brings deep expertise to NetApp and Microsoft. There’s not even a digital transformation team, but we bring that to their customers.”

The second major push behind Clearpath’s acquisition is the company’s reputation in the vendor community, Falcone said.

“Our friends at Dell, Pure Storage, Cisco and VMware are speechless [more highly] about the people of Clearpath, ”he said.

Bringing digital innovation services to an expanded customer base is critical to CDI, which has invested heavily in capabilities around technology, Falcone says.

“The mid-Atlantic region has a lot of players, but no one has experience with the digital change we’re bringing,” he said. “The CDI digital services team currently has approximately 125 people, including new hires in 2022, which is a higher number than the entire CDI team 10 years ago. Changing customers how they do business is a big focus of what we do. Clearpath and P5 don’t have the digital experience we have. Now they do. “

Outside of the mid-Atlantic region, CDI also acquired Minnesota-based High Availability last year as well as Candoris, which brought Salesforce and ServiceNow capabilities to expand CDI’s digital transformation capabilities, Falcone said .

CDI has four core businesses including its hybrid cloud infrastructure services team, managed services team, security services team and digital services team, he said. Everyone has their own dedicated salespeple who makes their own needs and can call for help from other teams if needed, he said.

“Clearpath has great data services and managed business services,” he said. “Today, we take them to security services and digital innovation. Their customers are looking for these services. Their clients trust Clearpath, and Clearpath can now see that it can offer them a modern catalog of services. “

CDI in 2021 saw bookings exceed $ 800 million, up 35 percent from 2020 bookings organically, Falcone said. By “organically,” he said he counts the sales of acquired companies before and after their acquisitions.

Falcone said CDI is open to more acquisitions, but only if the culture is right.

“If CDI wants to be a $ 2 billion organization, we can be,” he said. “A lot of companies have approached us about hiring. But we’re passing on a lot of opportunities. It’s about the right culture.”
