Microsoft is releasing a new security posture management tool for Defender for Cloud Apps to help organizations protect their cloud apps while organizations continue to use cloud-native software-as-a -service applications to meet their evolving needs.
The public preview of SaaS Security Posture Management in Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps is designed to help IT teams view, identify and fix incorrect configurations in applications to improve their organization’s cloud security, according to a Tech Community blog.
According to Microsoft, lack of visibility, incorrect configurations and advanced attacks are common threats to an organization’s cloud environment, so organizations need to proactively strengthen the posture of their SaaS app, detecting pitfalls. attack and prevent data leakage.
The company said Defender for Cloud Apps — announced in November 2021 — was designed to do just that, providing visibility and tools on identification patterns, assessing risk and managing more than 31,000 SaaS apps to defend against threats.
Plus there is the new integrated SaaS security management with Microsoft Secure Score for deeper visibility and the automatic detection of incorrect configurations and gaps in each app.
Currently, teams can access security posture insights throughout Office 365, and can preview the feature for Salesforce and ServiceNow. Additional SaaS apps will be added in the coming months, the company says.
This allows teams to identify incorrect configurations and get a step-by-step remediation guide for each dangerous security configuration in their environment for the associated SaaS app, Microsoft says.
The company sells Defender for Cloud Apps as a tool to help IT gain visibility of cloud apps, discover IT shadows, protect sensitive information and manage their security posture in cloud apps. Currently, the Defender for Cloud app works with Atlassian, Box, Dropbox, Google Workspace, OneLogin, Okta, Cisco WebEx, Salesforce, Slack, ServiceNow, DocuSign, NetDocuments, GitHub, in addition to Azure and Office 365 apps.
Previews are available for Zoom, Workplace by Meta, Egnyte and more.
Current users of the Defender for Cloud app can start using the new SaaS security posture management capabilities by connecting to Salesforce or ServiceNow. Security assessments and recommendations will be automatically displayed on the Microsoft 365 Defender portal below, Microsoft says.
