Icrosoft Viva Gets the Ground After 1 Year

Microsoft Viva has hit its one -year anniversary since its debut, and is now used by “more than 10 million monthly active users,” according to a Microsoft announcement on Friday.

Viva’s various statistics were described by Kirk Koenigsbauer, Microsoft’s chief operating officer and vice president of experiences and devices, in the announcement. He added that Viva now has “over 1,000 paying customers -including Blum, Nationwide, Old Mutual, PayPal, REI and Unilever.”

Viva is Microsoft’s “employee experience platform” that offers subscriptions to job-themed applications (called “modules”), which appear within the Microsoft Teams collaboration service.

So far, all four Viva modules-Connections, Insights, Learning and Topics-are in the “general availability” commercial-release stage. The fifth module, a “goal and key results” service based on Microsoft’s acquisition of Ally.io, announced in October, is yet to come. It is expected to appear “later this year,” Koenigsbauer said.

Here’s what the four commercially released modules do:

  • Viva Connections provides a news feed and allows content sharing.
  • Viva Insights is for employee time management.
  • Viva Learning gives employees access to learning libraries.
  • Viva Topics is used to display information within organizations.

Microsoft indicates that more than a million topics have been generated by Topics users. An average of 48 million engagement hours per month are booked by Insights users.

Koenigsbauer also featured partner efforts associated with Viva. Prominent partners that make apps or services for Viva include “ServiceNow, Qualtrics, Headspace, Cornerstone OnDemand, Workday, Espressive, OpenSesame, and EdCast,” he said.

Microsoft also has “more than 200 Viva solution partners,” including “Accenture/Avanade, EY, KPMG, PwC and Tata Consultancy Services,” Koenigsbauer added.

Additionally, Microsoft has trained more than 5,000 individual Microsoft Viva partners. Individual partners are people with different types of consulting and architectural jobs.
