More definition, better flexibility have become new work perks for Canadians, says new survey from ServiceNow

Results from ServiceNow New World of Work Educationwho surveyed 1,501 Canadian office workers, revealed in the bid for talent, high wages were not enough to reduce frustrating work, as nearly 3 in 4 (71%) said they would never take a frustrating job or no reward – even the higher the salary.

“Employee experience has become the new currency in talent search, and it’s critical that companies stay competitive,” he said. Marc LeCuyer, vice president and general manager, ServiceNow Canada. “Experiences are shaped by the type of work employees do every day. Having a job that feels impactful or important, and where you think you are contributing to a larger goal or purpose, is key to building great work experiences. “

Barriers to meaningful work and positive employee experience

In an era where people are re -evaluating what is important in their jobs, an increasing number of office employees in Canada need most of their work to be meaningful (88%, up 7 percentage points compared to 2019). However, it is a challenge to make this a reality, as office workers spend about a third of their time (30%) per week on low -level tasks. That’s the equivalent of 12 hours of work – or one and a half days of work per week.

Moreover, the pandemic has created many challenges that continue to become problems two years later. These translate to the top reasons why Canadian office workers might consider quitting their jobs, including:

  • Increased combustion (32%);
  • Increased working hours (28%);
  • Difficulty unplugging (27%); at
  • Challenges in communicating with colleagues (24%).

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is seen as a potential solution to reduce routine tasks and stress.

With increasing technology spending in businesses during the pandemic, McKinsey found that in the future, the leading performers in the economy plan to double-down on tech as a diversification. Office employees in Canada agree because two in three (67%) want their employers to invest in advanced technologies such as AI that will allow staff to perform low-level tasks more efficiently. , leaving more time for meaningful work.

Canadian office workers feel that the benefits of artificial intelligence in the workplace include its potential to reduce stress (46%), free time (33%) and reduce burnout (23%). By 2022, AI will no longer be abstract – it’s mainstream – and it’s a powerful technique to achieve a result that makes an employee’s job faster, easier and more accurate. Eight in 10 Canadian office workers (82%) see automation as the most useful AI application at work, including applications such as IT services, computer back-up, analytics and reporting, routine, and spreadsheet -based processes.

“Canadian office workers want to know that they are experiencing continuous personal and professional growth at work. But they can’t do that if they spend a third of their time on tasks they are not inspired to do,” he said. said LeCuyer. “Employers need to find ways to reduce the low cost of work. The use of digital tools can fill the gap to make work simpler, easier and faster every day to free up time for to employees who focus on the more important and enjoyable aspects of their jobs-only human work can do that. “
