Sendbird, the most proven chat platform for mobile apps, today announced the release of Sendbird Chat 4.0 and UIKit 3.0, which enhances the experience for developers developing chat applications. Sendbird Chat v4 features three new software development kits (SDKs) rebuilt from scratch using modern Swift, Kotlin, and TypeScript languages, while Sendbird Chat UIKit v3 showcases a new architecture with a more granular components that give developers more flexibility to customize their app. These new capabilities make it even easier to integrate modern, feature -rich chat with web and mobile applications.
Sendbird SDKs now allow developers to use codebases that are strategically aligned with the language supported by Apple, Google, and Microsoft, and the brand new UIKit makes it easier to integrate and customize chat on web and mobile applications. Sendbird has also released web support for the Sendbird Chat Flutter SDK so developers can share the same codebase in both web and mobile apps. Together, these changes will allow developers to deploy chat and take their applications to another level, opening up new possibilities for conversations and connections.
“Sendbird has become a global leader in chat through constant innovation-and making it easier for others to innovate as well,” said John S. Kim, co-founder and CEO of Sendbird. “Sendbird Chat v4 is a complete, elegant solution intensively crafted to make the development of even the most insanely powerful and unique apps seamless.”
Sendbird Chat v4: Codebase Development Using Swift, Kotlin, and Typescript SDK
Sendbird’s decision to modernize its entire codebase with Swift, Kotlin, and TypeScript, is based on the fact that these programming languages present tremendous advantages in terms of performance, stability, language maturity, and security. As a result, they have become very popular for apps that people know and like. For example, according to Google, more than 60% of the top 1,000 apps in the Play Store now use Kotlin. Swift is the choice of many top brands for apps such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Uber, Slack, Lyft, and LinkedIn. TypeScript has become the language of choice for thousands of the company’s web apps including Asana, Lyft, and Cloudflare. Simpler and more secure coding languages will allow developers to integrate Sendbird Chat faster.
The language move also allowed Sendbird to refactor its code, take advantage of new code patterns, and create better API wrappers. With the new languages, Sendbird also hopes to reduce its development cycle and release features faster. Several new features are already in development, which will be released exclusively in Sendbird Chat v4.
The New Chat UIKit empowers developers with additional customization capabilities
Sendbird created its UIKit to make chat integration quick and easy, but the company also recognizes the developers ’desire to customize different parts of their chat interface. The previous version of UIKit provided some customization for data, resource, and event binding; its new architecture is more persistent. Now, each module is divided into separate elements, which can be added, removed, or configured differently based on size and appearance. Modularization also extends the separation of data and events, enabling a higher level of customization.
