ServiceNow

Santa Clara, California–(Business Information)–ServiceNow (NYSE: NOW), a leading digital workflow company dedicated to providing people with better jobs, today announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire the next generation of observability leader Lightstep.

Through the acquisition of Lightstep, ServiceNow will consolidate and accelerate its position as the world’s leading digital business enterprise platform. ServiceNow is already a recognized market leader in the fields of IT service management, IT operations management, and digital workflow. With Lightstep, an emerging pioneer in next-generation application monitoring and observability, ServiceNow will help DevOps engineers build, deploy, run, and monitor the most advanced cloud-native applications. ServiceNow and Lightstep will extend the benefits of observability to the entire enterprise through digital workflows that transform real-time insights into actions across all technologies, people, and processes that support digital business.

In a cloud-based and DevOps world, the software that powers today’s enterprises is becoming more and more complex. However, the company is expected to increase innovation and speed without sacrificing reliability and performance. The combination of ServiceNow and Lightstep will provide in-depth operational insights, enabling enterprises to use modern technology stacks more effectively. Lightstep’s solution analyzes system-wide metrics and tracking data in real time to understand the reasons and effects of changes in application performance, reliability, and development speed. The Now platform coordinates technical and team responses, linking insights with the actions required to drive digital transformation. Customers will be able to use Lightstep’s functions and ServiceNow’s IT workflow solutions to weave different elements into a seamless digital structure, and more easily monitor and respond to key signals and software health indicators. This provides businesses with confidence and clarity to drive faster innovation and better results throughout the digital experience.

Pablo Stern, Senior Vice President of IT Workflow Products at ServiceNow, said: “In order to thrive in the 21st century, companies are betting on digital transformation, but transformation is often challenging.” “With Lightstep, ServiceNow will change the way in which software solutions are delivered to customers. This will ultimately make it easier for customers to innovate quickly. Now they will be able to build and run their software faster than ever before, and embrace the new era of work with confidence.”

Lightstep is a trusted observability solution for companies born in the cloud, such as GitHub, Spotify, and Twilio, and fast-growing companies whose business increasingly relies on software applications. The Lightstep platform provides a unified approach to observability, with system-wide visibility and insight across metrics, distributed tracking, and log integration. This helps organizations speed up software development without compromising quality and drives faster innovation throughout the digital customer experience.

Ben Sigelman, CEO and co-founder of Lightstep, said: “Today, observability is mainly beneficial to DevOps teams that build and operate mission-critical applications. “We have always believed that the value of observability should extend to the entire enterprise for participation. Each team of these modern digital businesses provides greater clarity and confidence. By joining ServiceNow, we will jointly realize this vision for our customers and help change the world of work in the process-we are extremely excited about this. ”

San Francisco-based Lightstep was co-founded in 2015 by CEO Ben Sigelman, COO Ben Cronin, and Chief Architect Daniel Spoonhower. The main team members of Lightstep helped define modern observability through their previous tracking and metric monitoring work at Google. The Lightstep team members also jointly created the OpenTracing and OpenTelemetry open source projects, leading the entire industry from proprietary agents to portable, always-on, and open standards-based tracking, metrics and log collection.

ServiceNow expects to complete the acquisition in the second quarter of 2021. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
