For IT vendors facing cautious CIOs, entering the Gartner Magic Quadrant is always a good sign. However, putting the solution into the hands of the leader is a bigger step. This is what just happened to ServiceNow’s hpaPaaS CreativeNow platform.
Research firm Gartner’s updates to the “Magic Quadrant” are always carefully scrutinized by market vendors and IT decision makers, who are always afraid of betting on the wrong horse and losing credibility among senior management. The release of the latest report dedicated to the Productivity Application Platform as a Service or hpaPaaS (High Productivity Application Platform as a Service) highlights the progress of ServiceNow, which is now associated with Salesforce, OutSystems and Mendix. “ServiceNow was a platform company when it was founded. The idea is very simple: simplify the work, this is what we managed to achieve,” the company’s CEO Josh Kahn said of the business unit platform activity on ServiceNow. “We believe that our leadership position in this Magic Quadrant is in line with our customers’ ability to build and deploy smart applications on our platform.”
More plainly, Garner analysts (Paul Vincent, Van Baker, Yefim Natis, Hikohiko Iijima, Mark Driver, Rob Duni, Jason Wang and Ashsh Gup Tower) estimated in its report that since 2013, as a publisher of CreativeNow, the publisher of the hpaPaaS solution, with the help of cross-selling, ServiceNow has made full use of its IT service advantages successfully established in the SaaS market, thereby gaining a share progress. Competitors find it difficult to do so. “The Now platform includes all platform services used by ServiceNow’s SaaS products on a single platform. In addition to application support, it also focuses on workflow and integration.” Gartner reports.
Market sharing between BMP and low-code participants
However, ServiceNow is not the only one in Leader Square. We can certainly find that Salesforce launched hpaPaaS in 2008: the modular development platform Force.com was renamed in 2017 Lightning. It is supplemented by the Heroku aPaaS resulting from the acquisition. If these two environments are naturally designed for use with the publisher’s CRM solution, the latter is interpreted as some customers have chosen their low-code platform when they have not yet used their CRM. The Lightning Platform is hosted on supplier data centers on three continents, and trials have also been conducted in two AWS regions.
Mendix was founded in 2005 and is a pure player providing low-code hpaPaaS solutions that can deliver cloud-native applications. Mendix’s Web Modeler and Atlas UI frameworks provide professional developers with a model-oriented visual development environment that generates metadata that can be interpreted during production. ‘carried out. Mendix also provides additional integrated development environments (IDEs) for professional coders to supplement and extend low-code development tools. “
Difficult markets
Finally, the last challenger in the leader category, OutSystems sells hpaPaaS solutions that support multi-cloud deployments, including AWS and Microsoft Azure, as well as specific options that support OutSystems, namely hosted or local private cloud. The Gartner report states: “The OutSystems platform uses a metadata-driven model, in which applications are developed using a scalable, loosely coded visual integrated development environment.”
Still according to the research company, the hpaPaaS market is growing rapidly. “Gartner found that the adoption of hpaPaaS has expanded to use areas previously occupied by highly controlled aPaaS and more traditional application servers.” In 2017, PaaS’s estimated turnover reached $11.8 billion. Among them, the turnover of the aPaaS part is 3 billion US dollars, and only Salesforce’s 1.8 billion US dollars is mainly due to its hpaPaaS activities. The company did not give a more accurate turnover of hpaPaaS in 2017, but reported that it assessed the database PaaS market at 3.1 billion, MADP at 1.3 billion, BMP at 260 million and PaaS Integration at 1.1 billion.
