ServiceNow was founded in 2004 and had sales of $2.6 billion at the end of 2017, an increase of 36% over the previous year’s revenue.

TechCrunch emphasized that the company’s image is very different from SAP, which has entered the market as a traditional on-premises software company since 1972. When ServiceNow was founded, it was a software-as-a-service company operating in the cloud.

At SAP, McDermott was involved in the transition from a traditional company to a new cloud solution. Now he will lead a much smaller organization born in the cloud model.
